Phagic Ocean

Ocean surface
Despite the vast surface area of the ocean, it seems that very few things have found it hospitable. Many scholars believe the constant motion of the surface prevents the necessary organization of living matter, as commonly seen on the surface of quieter pools and bays. Even so, there are a few ecosystems sustained by an anchor species of some kind, with the opportunists living in it’s wake. Warm waters to the North and West are plant dominated, with a variety of plant eating small fish, some sun loving small animals, and the predators that feed on all of them. Cold waters to the South and East tend to be more sterile, but they do support the larger marine animals that can tolerate the lower temperatures. They usually hunt in the deeper areas, returning to relative safety above.
